Vacation with Kids in Singapore

Travelling is a wonderful opportunity and anyone who can afford it should definitely go out and book a trip or two each year. With airlines making flights cheaper and more accessible for everyone, it is no wonder than many young families are choosing to have vacations together.

Despite this, travelling with young children may be tricky, especially for first-time flyers. Many families visit Singapore annually and no wonder--Singapore is a destination that exhilirates everyone, with activities and attractions for the entire family to enjoy. But before getting here, be sure that you have anticipated anything that might happen unexpectedly and would require a quick fix. Here are some tips for travelling with young children when visiting Singapore.

1. Check your accommodations. It is customary for families to book suites at hotels for their stay, but it may be smarter to find another type of short term accommodation in Singapore that would cater to your needs. Staying in a serviced apartment, for example, may be better. Serviced apartments are units you can rent out for short periods of time. They are ideal for families with young children since they mimic a house--it makes them feel more at home. Short term accommodation in Singapore like serviced apartments also have fully-equipped kitchens. These are useful for moms who would need to cook something quick for picky eaters, or even reheat milk in the night for infants.

2. Plan your activities. Take into consideration the ages of your kids and what they would most likely enjoy while on vacation. Balance this over the days you will be in the city. You might be so excited that you may book a lot of activities on one day without much breathing room. Additionally, when doing grown-up things like intense shopping, be sure to have a buddy who can also entertain the kids while you check out something in a store, and who will do the same for you.

3. Be prepared for anything. When you check in at the place you are staying, ask your manager or receptionist if they have a first aid kit containing various generic children's medicines like paracetamol for fever or mild ibuprofen for body aches. If not, know where the nearest drugstore is in case you need them. Be sure that you have clothes for warm and cold weather, since picky young children can be very fussy with clothing.

4. Let go and have fun! A vacation is the time to bond and create wonderful memories with your family. It may be natural to be protective of your child, but allowing him to experience new things and make it part of his formative years will do much good for him as a person, and open the door to new experiences and trying new things. Allow your kids to slowly grow up as you enjoy what Singapore has to offer. In some years, who knows—they might come back with kids of their own, and learn from your guidance.
