The structures, which are from his personal collection, consist of a pavilion, an opera stage and two houses. They are from the Ching and Ming dynasty, and are made from ancient wood.
The structures will be eventually housed at the permanent SUTD campus in Changi. The first phase of the Changi campus will be ready by 2015.

Demi Lovato Performs in Singapore

U.S. pop singer Demi Lovato passed through Singapore for a one-night engagement at the Hard Rock Hotel in Resorts World Sentosa on Monday.

After starring in the Disney film Camp Rock and now serving as a judge on the American version of the televised music competition program X Factor (alongside the “gleefully snarky” Simon Cowell) the 20-year-old Lovato reinvented herself as a diva and role model to young women around the world. Some of her hits include ‘Skyscraper’, ‘Give Your Heart a Break’ and ‘Heart Attack’, which was released ahead of schedule in February.

Speaking about her career to date, the starlet mixed with Singaporean media on Monday afternoon and received a crash-course in Singlish (a Creole version of English spoken in Singapore) from MediaCorp Radio 987FM DJ Divian Nair. Lovato quickly put her newfound Singlish vocabulary to use.

Singapore-KL high-speed link may cut flight prices by half

SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA - Fares for flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur could fall by close to 50 per cent once a new high-speed rail link is up, said an expert, who predicted that travellers will favour wheels to wings, in line with the situation in other countries.

Singapore and Malaysia announced last month that they have agreed to build a high-speed railway link by 2020 that will cut travel time between Malaysia's capital and Singapore to just 90 minutes.
While flight time between the two cities is only about an hour, the travel time for most passengers goes up to three or four hours after taking into account travel to and from airports, and check-in and immigration procedures. Travel by coach takes about five hours.

"What we have seen in other countries after the introduction of a high-speed rail is that airfares dropped by almost 50 per cent due to intense competition," said Ms Cindy Chua, head of client management of corporate-services provider Hogg Robinson Group (HRG) Singapore.
Now, airfares for close to 30 direct flights between Singapore and KL each day can go below $100, or up to over $300 for full-service airlines.

The Singapore dollar weakened against the U.S. dollar on Monday's Asian session, as country's non-oil exports shrank more than expected in February, led by sharp falls in shipments of pharmaceuticals and structures of ships and boats.

The report from the International Enterprise (IE) Singapore showed that non-oil domestic exports (NODX) contracted 30.6 percent year-on-year in February compared to forecasts for a 16 percent fall. This followed a 0.4 percent expansion in January.

Air Conditioning Repair – What You Need To Know To Be Safe

Nowadays, there are a lot of air conditioning repair options that are easy to do for the average handyman or handy woman, however there are also some dangerous aspects to air conditioning repair that should be well understood before starting any repair project. The first and most obvious safety issues when it comes to aircon repair is that this is an electrical appliance, and as such needs to be completely disconnected from the electrical outlet before starting on the repair. Simply turning the unit control into the off position is not all that is needed, rather the unit needs to be completely unplugged or the wiring disconnected to the power source. This is particularly important when working within the system or around the fan area of the air conditioning unit.

A Career In Heating And Air Conditioning in Singapore

As heating and air conditioning systems within houses and businesses become more and more complex in Singapore, additional skills are needed to repair, install and design these new models and systems. A vocational training program that allows students to learn the basics as well as the advanced information needed to working within the heating and air conditioning field is a great option for those that are interested in getting into a very lucrative and high demand sector, or those that want to start their own company or service industry.

Typically degree programs or certificates in Air Conditioners Servicing will be categorized under the term of HVACR or heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration. Students taking these courses can focus in on specific areas of interest such as heating and air conditioning throughout the course of studies. In addition there is also further specialization within HVACR programs with regards to working on commercial units or residential units, although basic course will provide students with an excellent foundation for working with both types. There are several levels of courses offered at most technical and vocations schools ranging from an Associate in Applied Science degree in HVACR to a HVACR Installation or Repair certificate program.
