How To Choose The Perfect Florist in Your Area

If you need a need dentist, and you don't have someone who you regularly see, how do you find someone?  You can ask your friends or go through the phone book.  What if you need someone to fix your car?  You can find them the same way, ask around, see if your friends have a mechanic that they use, someone they find to be reliable.  But what if you need a florist?  A florist is someone who offers personal services, many times not for you (although you will be the one making payment), but for someone else.

How do you choose the perfect florist in your area?

First, think that each florist's shop is as individual as the manager or owner who operates that business. A florist in Singapore is different from a florist in New York. Second, what type of service do you need from your florist?  Are you simply purchasing a bouquet of flowers, that you will buy yourself by walking into the store? If this is why you need a florist, then you can easily find a florist without having to concern yourself about their services.  You just walk into their storefront, inspect their inventory, choose a bouquet, make your purchase, and leave – simple.  But what if you need a different type of service, how do you know which florist to call?

Depending on the type of service you need, choosing the perfect florist may not be as simple as walking into the store and selecting a bouquet.  Many people who require the services of a florist, need one because they are sending flowers to someone, either locally or out of town.  If this is the reason why you need a florist, you have some things to think about.  First, if sending flowers to someone who lives locally to you, ask the florist what he has available.

Make sure the flowers are adequate to the occasion.

If you are not sure about your floral selection, certainly the florist can make suggestions.  There are ways to make the most simple of arrangements even sweeter by adding extras.  For example:  some extra springs of baby's breath placed in between some red roses can make the rose bouquet that much more special.  If you are sending something to new parents and you want your delivery to be extraordinary, talk to the florist and ask for suggestions. A good florist will suggest a selection of flowers.

A better florist will ask you if you want to include some extras, add a greeting card, etc.  An excellent florist will ask if the baby was a boy or girl while telling you that they are going to use either pink or blue colored paper, and may even engage you conversation to find out your relationship to the new parents.

It may sound like just simple conversation between a shop owner and a customer, but this example illustrates the difference between someone just selling you a service (which is fine) and a florist who takes personal interest in you, the recipient, and therefore the quality of flowers.  Anyone can send flowers as if they are dropping letters in the mail box (no personal interest or service).  But when you are sending flowers, it is usually for a special occasion and you want the person who receives them to feel special.  Even though this is a business transaction, there is nothing mundane about sending flowers – flowers are completely personal and when you are taking the time, trouble, and extra expense to send flowers, you definitely want to make sure that the florist will do the same.
