Victims of acne are only too familiar with the scaring and damage to the skin which is caused by acne.  The dibits, dents, and unsmooth skin surfaces are physically unattractive and can emotionally scar for life.  Fortunately for the person who is suffering from acne, there are ways to treat, and in many cases, even acne scars removal.

Think about having fractional laser treatments performed.  This is a very powerful and effective tool in the fight against scarring caused by acne.  Precisely controlled, fractional laser treatments  have less risk associated with them and most importantly, are a lot less painful and cost minimal downtime when compared with surgical procedures (a more traditional method for treating skin scarring).

Pulses of controlled laser light heat the scar tissue, triggering healthy new skin to grow.  Because damage to the skin is minimal, so is the healing; recovery time is minimal.  Patients who choose to undergo this procedure leave the medical office with minimal pinkness to the skin, very much like that of a very mild sunburn.  The only real negative is the experiencing of very minor and painless peeling in three to four days after treatment.

Fractional treatment may be a bit expensive, the extremely low risks and excellent results make this high tech treatment a preferred solution for scar removal (caused by acne).

An alternative to the laser treatment is a professional chemical peel for the acne scarred skin.  This method is one of the simplest ways to smooth down or remove scars from skin. Chemical peels work are very effective because the process simply removes the damaged top layers of the skin which has been scared by acne.  By removing the dead skin cells, the body works to speed up the skin’s cellular cycle, speeding up new cell growth beneath the skin’s surface.

When thinking about a chemical peel, it is important to consult with a medical dermatologist who regularly performs peels.  There are several of different types of peels, (glycolic, trichloroacetic acid, phenol, etc.) and each one works with varying pH levels.  A highly trained professional is required for guidance, to determine which chemical peel is appropriate.  Many are highly acidic, and can result in a serious burn (which is at risk for infection.)

Another very effective method for removing scar tissue, is a process identified as a microdermabrasion procedure.  This method is also a noninvasive method to smooth the skin. Thought of as another choice for acne scar removal, microdermabrasion is not usually recommended by professional dermatologists.  Like the chemical peel, this method was popular when options for removing scarring were limited.   With recent technological advances, there are other choices which are friendlier and pose less risk for pain, burn, and infection.  While many who suffer acne scars will choose microdermabrasion, it is one of the least popular choices.
