What Makes a Good Renovation Contractor?

When you are looking into renovating your home or your flat, then you must know some stuff on how to go about doing it. You cannot just hammer your way into the flat. You must know the process into doing so. In Singapore, you cannot just renovate if your home is registered under the House and Development Board (HDB). You must hire a good renovation contractor to do so. But not every renovation contractor is qualified. There are some points you must consider first before you hire a good renovation contractor. What are these points? How can a renovation contractor become a good renovation contractor who can renovate your flat? Below are some points to consider.

Not every renovation contractor is good to hire. You must know that the renovation contractor is registered to the House and Development Board. To do so, you can check the HDB website. The website lists all renovation contractors registered under the HDB. If you are looking to hire a good renovation contractor, you can visit the site for registered renovation contractors. The site lists down all the renovation contractors within Singapore that you can tap for your renovation project. Visit the site here: http://www.hdb.gov.sg.

After you visited the site, you can contact possible contractors for your project. The next step is talking to your renovation contractor. You must inform your contractor of the changes you want for your flat. The contractor must know which renovations are possible and acceptable within the limits set by the House and Development Board. Not every renovation is acceptable. Your contractor must know what can be done and what is not allowed. Some changes like demolition of walls and major construction projects like expansion of rooms are forbidden. However, small renovation projects like repainting and repairing of tiles are allowed. Your contractor can do that for you.

By the time you know what can be done in your flat, then your contractor, if he is a good renovation contractor must inform you and the House and Development Board of the following:

Time required to renovate
Materials needed
Projected cost

Doing so would allow you, the contractor and HDB to negotiate on the projected duration and requirements needed. Not everything will be acceptable. This is a renovation that needs to be approved by the HDB after all. So approval is still necessary. Your renovation contractor must be on top of all the approvals being negotiated between you and the HDB.

By the time the proposal is approved, then the actual renovations comes. A good renovation contractor would inform you of the progress of the refurbishing. When the renovation is finished, then you would see a home changed for the better.
