Need Help on your Leaking Roof?

Have you noticed some brown spots on your ceiling? Can you hear dripping water overhead? Could it be that your roof is leaking? There are several means of checking a leaking roof. It can be a intricate task due to several factors:

•    Roof leaking usually starts slow

A leaking roof can’t be easily tracked unless you investigate the problem thoroughly. Leaks do not easily drip into your living space so they can easily be spotted. This leaves you frustrated especially if you have been checking for signs of the leakages but was not able to find one. Unless of course, there are stains, molds or visible signs of deterioration to your shingles or to the parts near the roof leaking.
There are times that the leaks can’t even be seen during heavy rains as it has not hit the severity that would make it visible. The more it would not show during light rains or drizzle.

•    It can be associated with other types of water concerns

Improper installation of you roof can be one of the causes that would be associated to your leaks. These may not be noticeable unless damage has been done to your roofing. Some roof leaking concerns are also due to window leaks, masonry leak or siding leaks. Make sure that you have checked these parts aside from your roofs.

•    Professionals even have difficulty in looking for a leaking roof

If you are hiring a professional to check for your roof leaking, do not expect that they can give you easily a quote as they have to thoroughly inspect everything. It would also hard for them to give solutions unless they have inspected every part of the roof or sidings and know if there are any penetrations that can cause the leakage. There are times that the roof leaking is not cause by roofing, siding or flashing issues but due to a plumbing problem.

To make sure that the roof leaking would not develop more and can cause too much trouble, here are a few signs you need to watch out:

•    Visible brown spots on your ceiling.
•    There are water stains that are found under your roofing deck or around your chimney.
•    You can see black stains on your roofing deck; these are molds and mildew that have developed.
•    You can find small pieces of shingles in your yard.
•    The furnace flue has rust stains.
•    The area around your skylights has peeling paint or the wood has rooted.
•    Granules of your roof can be found on your downspouts.

These are just a few early signs of your leaking roof. These are just minor and are easy to fix; however, if you will not act on it immediately this could cause a major problem and money. So before it can become worse, fix your leaking roof by yourself or hire a professional who knows how to solve your problems the easiest possible way.
