Jurong Point Shopping Centre is welcoming students to study on
its premises. In fact, it is encouraging it with free weekly tuition
sessions.
The shopping centre is working with undergraduates from Nanyang Technological University's (NTU) Welfare Services Club for this project targeted at low-income students. Over the next two years, students will get one-on-one tutoring sessions for English and mathematics if they are in upper primary or lower secondary. Recipients must be from families where the monthly household income falls below $2,500.
The evening sessions will be held at an area specially set aside in the mall for students to study. The area has air-conditioning, water dispensers, power sockets and desk and chairs.
